Jessie Street Marsh Habitat Management Plan
The Jessie Street Marsh Habitat Management Plan was completed
in September, 1998 and has been on hold in the city Parks and Rec Department
since then for one reason or another. The latest delay came this past summer
when bids for the project came in several hundred thousand dollars over budget.
The plan is being re-designed to bring it back under budget, so some features
of the original plan my be lost.
Plan Highlights
Highlights of the 1998 plan include:
- Restoring the Marsh to a mix of fresh and saltwater marsh
- Replacing the water outlet/intake at the San Lorenzo River with a more high-tech
slide gate
- Paths, boardwalk, and stairway to Oceanview Park
- Removing non-native vegetation and replacing with native plants
- Removing fill dirt dumped in the Marsh plain over the years
- Interpretive signage
- Trash receptacles
- Regular maintenance by park personnel
